Safety during autoclave sterilization |
|
|
Most importantly, the ZirAce® abutment does not undergo low temperature degradation during autoclave sterilization, unlike ordinary tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP), at high pressure and humidity at a temperature range of 100°C ~ 300°C.
This degradation has been a major concern in the use of Y-TZP as femoral heads for total hip replacements because of a potential abrupt decrease in strength of Y-TZP while aging in the human body environment. |

X-ray diffraction patterns after autoclave treatment at 135oC for 2 hours.
The m-peak in Y-TZP indicate phase transformation of tetragonal to monoclinic phase. |
